(Atlanta, GA) — The National Public Health Coalition (NPHC), a non-profit public health organization, announces the release of new data exposing the scale and scope of the illegal firings across the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) since January 2025. The data, hosted on CDCDataProject.org, shows the once world-renowned public health agency has now lost one-third of its federal civil-service workforce due to Reductions in Force (RIF) carried out by Russel Vought, RFK Jr., and the Trump Administration.

The interactive dashboard provides a clear, data-driven view of what remains of the nation’s leading public health agency, including detailing the loss of 150 programs throughout the agency that have been eliminated or put on administrative leave since February. These center- and division-level impacts, workforce reductions, and the ongoing erosion of public health expertise are resulting from politically motivated actions.

“Our new data demonstrates the unimaginable cuts to critical programs and severely harm our Nation”, said Abby Tighe, executive director of NPHC. “Over 80% of funding from the CDC goes directly to communities, local health departments, and states - these cuts will be felt on all levels, in all communities, and in all households”.

This information illustrates how the loss of critical staff and expertise threatens CDC’s ability to respond to outbreaks, sustain chronic disease prevention programs, and uphold its mission to protect the health and safety of all Americans. Communities are already feeling the impact of slower outbreak detection, diminished technical assistance, and weakened program delivery nationwide.

The CDC Data Project, since its original launch this summer, has offered key takeaways and program-specific insights. The latest addition of new data helps to further show how CDC and our Nation's public health have been impacted by these cuts.

The National Public Health Coalition remains committed to transparency, integrity, and long-term advocacy for a stronger public health system. While Fired but Fighting continues as one of NPHC’s founding initiatives, NPHC is expanding its efforts to build a sustainable, nonpartisan strategy to strengthen the nation’s public health infrastructure.

NPHC encourages media members, legislators, partners, and the public to use this dashboard to better understand the widespread impact of the illegal firings and to join efforts to rebuild a stronger, more resilient CDC
