More Than 1,000 HHS Employees Call for Secretary Kennedy’s Resignation Under Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Leadership, No American is Safe

September 3, 2025

Employees from the department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Agencies will release a signed response (signed in their personal capacity, on their personal time, without use of government equipment) urging Secretary of Heath and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to resign. This response holds signatures from more than 1,000 current and former employees representing every agency under HHS.

The call for resignation comes after more than 750 current and former HHS employees sent a letter to Secretary Kennedy on August 25th, requesting that Secretary Kennedy take action to protect the nation’s public health and the safety of the HHS workforce. Since the letter’s release, the number of signatories has grown to almost 7,000. Despite requesting a response from Secretary Kennedy by September 2nd, HHS employees have yet to receive a response. The Secretary’s silence is deafening.

Secretary Kennedy has also continued to endanger our nation’s health and cause chaos and confusion at HHS agencies. This includes facilitating the firing of the newly confirmed CDC Director, Dr. Susan Monarez coupled with the resignation of several senior CDC leaders. Additionally, Secretary Kennedy’s dangerous actions on vaccines, including rescinding FDA’s emergency use authorization for COVID-19 vaccinations, is putting lives at risk. It is clear that under Secretary Kennedy, the health of all Americans is at risk.

“In 2003, I was appointed to my position at the National Institutes of Health by Republican Secretary of Health and Human Services, Tommy Thompson.” Said former Director of NIH’s National Institute of General Medical Sciences, Dr. Jeremy Berg, PhD. “Secretary Kennedy is disgracing this important position. His destructive assault on public health, pushing an ideological agenda, independent of scientific facts and expertise, needs to come to an end.”

This letter joins calls for resignation from many other organizations, including, the American Public Health Association, Stand Up for Science, National Nurses United, and others.
